I pass these trees daily on the drive to pick up my son from school in Kula. They bloom quickly and when they do there is an explosion of pink. After all our gloomy weather I think we are all ready for a little pink and a little blue, and a little yellow and a lot of warm. Lastlly, and unfortunately, in typical Maui fashion, right next to all that beauty, there is a can of toxic waste. A little boy who lived down our street lost his mom yesterday, she was only 38. Her little boy was the brightest spot in her life and anyone could tell. They didn’t have a lot, and you could tell, but they had each other, and it was obvious… and that was a lot. Colby…these flowers are for you. Our street is just not the same. For the rest of us… let’s just mind the toxic waste.
