Ring of Fire ~ Jupiter Nielsen ~ Maui Glass Art

Jupiter Nielsen is a flameworker that is out of this world.  Why even his name tells you so.  He is an accomplished artist as well as photographer that finds his inspiration in native Hawaiian plants, sea life, insects, and the free form.  But it is his work in glass that is extraordinary…there is something treasurable and fleeting about such a fragile art.  I enjoyed watching him work in his studio.  He moves fast, yet deliberate and with care, for he is within inches to the flame. There was a lot of heat, a stream of fire, some dangerous chemicals and broken glass.  I was more than happy to help him get some shots of him creating and I was pretty excited when he offered me the manta ray I watched him make right before my eyes!
