Kanoe Blue Photo bio picture

Aloha !

I am a person in search of beauty. Inspired by light.  By nature.  By the sea.  I am most drawn to photographing people. Humans are what I do best. Portraiture, wedding, family, mother and child. Photography is my outlet. I explore. I take risks. My personal work is what moves me forward.  I have to love it, and it better be fun, or I wont do it. I would love to hear your ideas and tell you about mine. Dont be shy, leave a comment... better yet..contact.

Gifts From The Sea ~ Part 2 ~ The Outer Banks, NC

Sea foam green presented itself as the color of the trip.  I found a vintage bike for cruising that matched the shutters on the cottage.  I walked twice a day to the pier.  I left the fisherman alone with their fish.  I look only for shells and meditation.  I took a trip to the giant...

Gifts From The Sea ~ Part 1 ~ The Outer Banks, NC

This post is long overdue and I apologize… but immediately after this trip… Christmas happened.  And we all know what that means. How fortunate I was to be able to take this deep breath and pause to recharge  just before the craziness that the holiday’s bring.  Growing up on the west coast and in Hawaii,...

2011 ~ Pillars of Strength

Last night a friend mentioned to me that when she imagines the year 2011 she visualizes 2 pillars of strength.  The number 11.  A strong symbol for the new year. Reflecting back, 2010 was a tough one for many people, myself included.  Although struggles for balance and harmony between work and family challenged me all...

Maui Fire Dancers ~ Maui SmugMug November Shootout

Big thanks going out to Anna Kim for organizing last night’s shootout of Merkabah Fire Productions at the old Haiku Mill.  This is a magical historic site saved from ruin by my old windsurfing friend and artist, Mickey Eskimo.  I have never forgotten my first visit approximately 20 years ago.  His vision and years of...

Waikamoi Preserve ~ East Maui Watershed ~ Maui Nature Photographer

Walk with me into the Waikamoi forest, the protected home for hundreds of native Hawaiian species, plants and birds.  Our hike led by Nature Conservancy volunteer, Hawaiian bird specialist, the photographer, Mike Neal took us into a magical Hawaiian underworld. Although I did not capture them on film, we got to see and hear the...

Halloween ~ Maui Children’s Photographer

My son Axel has been begging me for years to get him a straight off the rack, spooky ghoul costume.  I have denied him until this year because I have a thing about store bought costumes that I inherited from my mother.  As kids we always made our own costumes from scratch and my mom...

Axel ~ Individuality ~ Maui Portrait Photography

My son Axel recently had to change schools.  He has been a little moody to say the least.  He is at a stage in his life where he just wants to be like everybody else.  It is hard when you are not only the new kid in class, but you are the only blonde.  Not...

Maui Photo Festival 2010 ~ Maui Photographer

My thoughts.  Still reeling.  What an incredible 3 days.  All photography.  All day long.  I am inspired.  I am humbled.  It is about the art. It is about the heart.  It is about the vision.  It is about the craft.  It is about the geek.  It is about nurturing both sides.  It was a marathon...

SUP Zen Session with Tatiana Howard

Tatiana, my children and I spent a morning by a secret waterfall on Maui’s north shore.  Tatiana is not only an accomplished kitesurfer, windsurfer, surfer and stand up paddler, but she is very good at Yoga which helps her balance it all out.  She is a lovely person inside and out, and she just glows....
